Our Colour Training is headed up by Chaz Morris. Chaz has been in the hair industry for over 20 years and is extremely passionate about training. Chaz educates on all aspects of the hairdressing trade. Her extensive knowledge and practical approach to training sessions ensure that staff are equipped with the requisite skills and latest tools to succeed in our salons.
Colour Training takes place from Monday to Thursday at our head office in Pretoria, or in a dedicated salon environment, depending on the content of the course.
Our staff attend training sessions on a rotational basis every few weeks, from our youngest apprentices to our most experienced master stylists. At Colour Training, our staff are taught the latest colour techniques to ensure our clientèle benefit from current international trends.
Every Tuesday afternoon from 4pm to 6pm, we have Cutting Training in all of our salons. These training sessions are overseen by our cutting trainers who will assist our apprentices and stylists during these sessions. Each apprentice is required to bring in two models a week to practice a certain cut or colour technique that is required for the specific section in their training manual.
Apprentices will be graded on their cuts and colours in order to determine when they will go onto the salon floor to work as a full-time stylist. Grading takes place 6 times a year, but can also be conducted individually by our training director, if necessary, to fast-track certain individuals.
Gary Rom Hairdressing is the market leader for in-salon apprentice training. Gary has continually developed and implemented his training programmes ensuring that salon professionals are the benchmark in our industry. For example, Gary insists that each of our stylists discusses their client plan with their apprentice, in the presence of their client; it is heart-warming to see this interaction taking place in our salons, as this hands-on training is not only enlightening for our clients, but includes our apprentices in the bespoke Gary Rom Hairdressing experience.
